Marijuana legalization does not increase teen use

We were at the NY State Marijuana listening session this week and heard a number of pediatricians express concern that legalizing marijuana in New York would lead to increase teen use. Reasonable concerns. There is data available to answer these concerns. The Washington Post published an article this year summarizing national data on teen use of marijuana and other drugs. In short, it is down across the board.

The chart above shows teen use of marijuana in Colorado. There was a sharp DROP in teen use after legalization. So legalization of marijuana, when done correctly with money spent on education, regulation, and packaging, has been shown to be safe for teens.
